NORTH BROOKFIELD YOUTH BASKETBALL/ PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE SUMMER BASKETBALL PROGRAM The North Brookfield Youth Basketball League and the North Brookfield Playground Committee will be organizing a summer basketball program for boys and girls who will be in 1st grade through 6th grade in the fall of 2009. There will be three divisions, 1st & 2nd graders will play on Monday’s, 3rd & 4th graders will play on Tuesday’s and 5th and 6th, on Wednesday The program will begin on Monday July 13th and run thru August 19th.

Fourth of July festivities on tap for this weekend EAST BROOKFIELD — By Monday evening, the first glimmer of the East Brookfield’s Fourth of July celebration could be seen at Connie Mack Field, where rides were being hauled in and assembled, and booths were already being set up, as the “Fun Slide” flashing lights twinkled in anticipation of the fun-filled festivities. The celebration will be held from 6-10 p.m.

July 14 (Tuesday) 10am to noon “Organizing and preserving your family history” Workshop will be held at the Haston Free Public Library in North Brookfield This workshop will be presented by Autumn Hagg, Reference Archivist from the Massachusetts State Archives. The class will offer tips on how to organize and care for paper records, photographs, and other audio-visual material. We are going to discuss paper records, a range of photographs from daguerreotypes to Polaroid's, and digital records including digital photographs and family history websites and software.

Selectmen's meetings are every two weeks in the summer months. July 14 Senior Center from 7-8:30 PM it is Mary Walter’s night to be at the Senior Center to discuss your issues, ideas, get feedback on how we are doing, talk about volunteering your time and energy to some great projects and committees or whatever is on your mind. These community nights are in lieu of a Selectmen's meeting.

CAMP S.M.I.L.E. 2009 July 20-23rd; July 27-30; August 3-6 11:40-4:50 Congregational Church, Main Street. The Youth Center offered the Camp the last five years and it was a huge success. As a result of this, we would like to offer a similar experience this year. Camp S.M.I.L.E. is designed and facilitated by 7th-12th graders in North Brookfield, under the supervision of the Youth Center staff. This year, the Camp will be offered for three weeks for children currently in K-5th grade. The Camp will run Monday-Thursday from 11:30am. -4:50pm.

July 23: “This is Our Country,” a dramatic show of patriotic and familiar country songs hosted by George Reeve with special guests John Ebersold, Alan Hoffsomer and Fiddlin’ Ed. “We invite the public to bring your own picnic dinner and decorate your blanket or table, as you would if you were on the lawn at Tanglewood,” Bedard said. “You might try a candelabra, flowers or Christmas lights.” Or, Bedard added, the town beautification committee will be selling food during the concerts.

Deadline July 25 for horseshoe tournament NORTH BROOKFIELD — The Heart to Heart Foundation Horseshoe Tournament will start at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 on the North Brookfield Common, as part of the annual Fun Day on the Common. The entry fee is $10 per person, and there is a limit of 40 people who can sign up. There will be cash prizes, a bracket system and a double elimination format (depending on the number of players that sign up). Random teams will be drawn at 7:30 a.m. The cutoff for signups is Saturday, July 25.
