    Deadline July 25 for horseshoe tournament NORTH BROOKFIELD — The Heart to Heart Foundation Horseshoe Tournament will start at 8 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2 on the North Brookfield Common, as part of the annual Fun Day on the Common. The entry fee is $10 per person, and there is a limit of 40 people who can sign up. There will be cash prizes, a bracket system and a double elimination format (depending on the number of players that sign up). Random teams will be drawn at 7:30 a.m. The cutoff for signups is Saturday, July 25.

    July 26 (Sunday) 3pm Brookfield Garden Club offers soil management program (complements of the Spencer New Leader) — The Brookfield Garden Club will host a program by Dan Kittredge of North Brookfield on how farmers can work to achieve better nutrition through better soil management, which in turn can produce better tasting, more nutrient-rich foods. The program will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26 in the basement of Brookfield Congregational Church. The program is free and open to the public.

Vacation Bible School has something for everyone! This week of adventure will have kids crafting away in Cavern Crafts, running and jumping and playing in Gully Games, singing a new set of tunes that ROCK, and hearing the Good News echo off the canyon walls!     CAMP S.M.I.L.E. 2009 July 27-30; August 3-6 11:40-4:50 Congregational Church, Main Street. The Youth Center offered the Camp the last five years and it was a huge success. As a result of this, we would like to offer a similar experience this year. Camp S.M.I.L.E. is designed and facilitated by 7th-12th graders in North Brookfield, under the supervision of the Youth Center staff. This year, the Camp will be offered for three weeks for children currently in K-5th grade. The Camp will run Monday-Thursday from 11:30am. -4:50pm.

    July 30: “A Classical Sunset” to please all music lovers, hosted by Wesley Hall, an outstanding organist/pianist, with special guests Joshua Allen, Tyler Davis and Erica Hall. “We invite the public to bring your own picnic dinner and decorate your blanket or table, as you would if you were on the lawn at Tanglewood,” Bedard said. “You might try a candelabra, flowers or Christmas lights.” Or, Bedard added, the town beautification committee will be selling food during the concerts.
