Local Hearts for Heat to host wine tasting (Spencer New Leader)

SPENCER — What could be better than a night out in an elegant setting, with beer, wine, cheese, crackers and hors d’oeuvres, and even music at your request? All that, and the knowledge that the money for the tickets goes to help heat the homes of those who just can’t afford to pay for fuel this year.

On Friday, Nov. 13 from 6-9 p.m., Hearts for Heat is hosting a wine-and-beer tasting, complete with food, music and silent auctions. It is a joint venture between all four Hearts for Heat chapters — Spencer, North Brookfield, Leicester and Princeton. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

“Their whole donation goes to pay for heat,” said Spencer Hearts for Heat President Sharon Legasey. “The Spencer Country Inn gave us their ballroom for the evening, and the music is coming from ‘Starlight,’ who is donating their time.” To ensure that 100 percent of the proceeds go right to the charity, Heart for Heat is also looking for sponsors to pay for things like drinking glasses and publicity. Donors could include their company logo or name on flyers about the event, or the glasses, she said. “The glassware is going home with everybody, as a nice little keepsake,” she said.

Tickets are available at the Liquor Barn Apple Blossom and Ahearn’s Equipment in Spencer, and from board members in Leicester.
