Library to present art/poetry program NORTH BROOKFIELD — Teaching artist Renee Malowitz and creative writing instructor Rhonda Hamer join to provide an all ages project combining poetry and art from 2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Haston Free Public Library. To register, call the library at (508) 867-0208.

Participants will create a watercolor resist paper of their own design, as well as pen their own poem in calligraphy marker, combining the two to create laminated bookmarks suitable to give as gifts or mark a page in a favorite book. Poems by others will be made available as examples or for copying. This program provides an opportunity to create simple yet beautiful art and expose participants to one of the processes of writing poetry and using calligraphy markers. It is an opportunity for community members to come together in a relaxed setting and create. Malowitz and Hamer have been teaching in their various fields for many years. Malowitz has been a teaching artist for more than 30 years, including a classroom instructor, freelance artist, business owner, theater design/artist and consultant. She also sketches and paints. Hamer has been teaching for more than 20 years and has been a freelance writer and photographer, tutor and instructor. This program is supported in part by a grant from the North Brookfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The program is free, and all are welcome
