NBES finished its 2nd year of math contests: Christy Dever in the top 1 percent nationwide
North Brookfield Elementary School finished its second year of math contests participating in the National Online Math League, cocoached by Sue LaFlamme and Karen McGrail.
There were 15 sixth-graders and eight fifth-graders who competed in three contests held Nov. 20, Feb. 5 and March 30. The overall top scorer for North Brookfield Elementary was Christy Dever, earning a total of 41 out of 45 points for the year, placing her in the top 1 percent nationwide for all participating sixth-graders.
Other top sixth-grade scorers were Tyler Wood (second place), Collin Cormier (third place) and Lindsey Ostiguy (fourth place). Other sixth-grade team members were Aaron Farrington, Samantha Farmer, Kalie Harding, Connor Hibbard, Laura Hildick, Paul Kittredge, Brandy Peterson, Sarah Smith, Tabitha Thomas, Chris Tillotson and Morgan Westerback.
The top scorer for the fifth grade was Jessica Ruiz, earning a total of 32 points out of 45 points, placing her in the top 15 percent nationwide for all participating fifth graders. Other top 5th grade scorers were Garrett Maggio (second place), Adam Shays (third place) and Catherine Buzzell (fourth place). Other fifth-grade team members were Travis Fuller, Jay Mason, Rachael Orsi and Rachael Ostiguy
